Speak Out! is a website created to highlight free speech on the Texas State campus. Texas State is active with free speech throughout the various free speech zones on campus, the most popular of which is the Fighting Stallions statue. In these zones, one will find anyone from preachers to protesters and everything in between. Everyone is trying to get their message out to Texas State students.
This website sets out to explore the state of free speech at Texas State through interviews with students and staff. We will explore what free speech means to individuals and how they set out to express themselves. We will consider the University Common Experience theme of the First Amendment and how this applies to those on campus.
The site also includes an overview of the history of free speech at Texas State, as well as a look at student free speech rights on campus. We provide information and links to other websites to help students understand what they may do and say on campus and how they can go about doing it.
This wholistic view on free speech in relation to Texas State serves to provide a case study of expression on campus as seen through the eyes of those who experience it everyday, and to give students the tools they will need to become active participants in free expression.
